How to measure grain stocks?
A new AMIS publication provides guidance on measuring grain reserves. Reliable stocks data help decision makers understand food availability, plan the necessary interventions on market stabilization, and address issues related to food insecurity. Helping countries produce better stocks data has therefore been a main objectives of the AMIS initiative.
The report provides practical tools for direct measurement of food stocks; discusses current and best practices for stock estimation through sample surveys; reflects on conceptual, technical, human and budgetary issues related to stock surveys; and provides examples and tools for countries wishing to develop their stock survey programmes.
