Canada supporting work on sentiment index
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada signed a grant agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to support ongoing work on developing an index of market sentiment for AMIS. The index will filter information from social media (e.g. Twitter), blogs and dedicated news services to capture the prevailing attitude among investors and other market participants. Such information will help assess the market’s propensity to risk and hence the expected volatility in prices. As a forward-looking predictor of high uncertainty and high prices in the commodities monitored by AMIS, the sentiment index will fill an important knowledge gap and support the mandate of AMIS.
