AMIS Chair reports on recent RRF to G7 Ministers of Agriculture

11 Mar 2022

The AMIS Chair, Ms. Adriana Herrera, delivered a statement in today's extraordinary meeting of G7 Ministers of Agriculture on the conflict in Ukraine. Apart from outlining the risks from this crisis for agricultural markets and food security, Ms. Herrera particularly focused on outcomes of the recent meeting of the AMIS Rapid Response Forum.

In her intervention, she highlighted the importance of AMIS in "analyzing, monitoring, and regularly reporting the effects of the current situation to promote evidence-based decision-making". She recalled that "AMIS proved to be very efficient and successful during the COVID-19 pandemic, and will hopefully be able to play an equally constructive role during the current crisis". Against this background, she asked the G7 and individual member countries to "continue supporting and further strengthening this unique initiative".

Apart from Ms. Herrera and the G7 Ministers of Agriculture, the meeting was attended by the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mr. Qu Dongyu; the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Mr. David Beasley; and the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mr. Mathias Cormann.
