10th session of the Global Food Market Information Group
The tenth session of the Global Food Market Information Group took place at FAO headquarters on 6-7 October. As the meeting coincided with the fifth anniversary of AMIS, it gave an opportunity to reflect on past achievements in ehanching market transparency and identify outstanding challenges that need to be tackled in the future. Highlights of the meeting included a discussion of the progress of AMIS since inception; the presentation of the world market situation for wheat, maize, rice and soybeans; and the review of several research projects, including the construction of a market sentiment index, the relevance of futures markets for German spot markets, the identification of extreme price movements, and new analysis of USDA on the impact of the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) reports.
