Selected experts from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Nigeria were trained in the use of a new tool for mobile price data collection in a recent workshop held in Kaduna State.

The tool, which has been developed as part of an AMIS capacity development project, aims to significantly improve the timeliness and quality of price data available in Nigeria.

The training was composed of following sessions:

• Introduction to the tool, discussing its underlying technology, potential benefits and challenges as well as the overall impact on data production processes.
• Application of the tool during a practical session in which participants visited local markets and collected price data using mobile devices.
• Training on the back-end and administrative aspects of the tool by familiarizing ICT experts of the respective Government agencies with the software and underlying technology of the tool for future support purposes.

All participants will continue testing the devices and software by regularly collecting and uploading market price data. This test phase will help improve their use of the new technology and incorporate final improvements before implementing the tool in their respective agencies.
