Strengthening Agricultural Market Information in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), in close collaboration with the FAO Office in Bangladesh, organized a one-day workshop to plan activities for early forecasting of rice and potato production. Better forecasts will help stabilize markets as it will be more difficult for traders to artificially inflate rice and potato prices if information on expected production is available to everyone.
The event, which was attended by the Joint Director of BBS, the Secretary of the Bangladesh Statistics and Informatics Division, and the country representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization, is part of an AMIS capacity building project to strengthen the country’s market information systems.
