The 9th session of the AMIS Rapid Response Forum was organized on 28 January 2020 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the margins of the first meeting of G20 Agriculture Deputies. Apart from reviewing the global food market situation and outlook for 2019/2020, meeting participants considered implications on the outbreak of African swine fever on global meat and feed markets; discussed recent trends in international biofuels markets; and took note of the current state of play of agriculture negotiations at the World Trade Organization. Meeting participants elected the European Union as next AMIS Chair (2020-2021), represented by the Director of Strategy, Simplification and Policy Analysis, DG Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Tassos Haniotis.

Prior to the meeting, the AMIS Secretariat briefed G20 Agriculture Deputies on the progress of the AMIS initiative in 2019 in the framework of the annual stocktaking exercise. G20 members remain very supportive of the objectives of AMIS and commit to working closely with the Secretariat to further strengthen the initiative.
